Green Initiative

American Design Associates believes that helping the environment benefits everyone. That is why we started our Green Initiative program several years ago. Designed with the environment and a client’s budget in mind, we are very proud to offer economical and earth-friendly options.

The Green Initiative at American Design targets office furniture, with the goal of keeping it out of landfills. We accomplish this by offering our clients top notch used and refurbished office furniture at a more affordable price point than brand new. Every year, our vendors save over 1,000 tons of previously owned office furniture by using the recycled contents in the making of their remanufactured product.

More and more companies are realizing that in addition to saving some green, they can also contribute to the green movement.

So what are the different types of “used” furniture?

  • Used furniture has been carefully cleaned and brought back to life. Compared to refurbished, used or “as-is” furniture is the least expensive alternative and the best for the environment.


  • Refurbished furniture has been cleaned, and missing or worn out parts have been replaced. This is a “hybrid” product and utilizes a mixture of remanufactured and “as-is” components.
  • Remanufactured furniture has undergone an entire stripping down process. All parts are inspected, cleaned, repaired, or replaced, then reassembled and refinished to “like-new” condition. You can choose new fabrics, laminates, and paint colors.


American Design Associates continues to evolve our Green Initiative as new products and practices become available. We partner with manufacturers who want to lessen our industry’s impact on the environment and improve sustainability.

All of our vendors strive to maintain the top environmental certifications including GREENGUARD (for indoor air quality), level® (the multi attribute, sustainability standard and third party certification program for the furniture industry), and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) with many, if not all, of their products able to support the US Green Building’s Council (USGBC) LEED Certification Program for building projects.
